Lil Yachty treated fans Thanksgiving day with a simultaneous audio and visual release of “Flex Up” featuring Playboi Carti and Future. Anticipation rose as several snippets of the song leaked online Nov.23 before its proper release on the deluxe edition of his album, Lil Boat 3. Which prompted a playful response of “I hope every leaker dies.
This marks the first time all three Atlanta MC’s have connected on a record, and they did not disappoint. Borrowing production from 808 mafia’s Southside,Lil Boat opts for an uptempo dark and gritty horrorcore instrumental for all three artists to ride. With the living mystery that is Playboi Carti, “Flex Up” sees the rare appearance from the rapper turned father.Only taking up roughly 30 or more seconds on the track,Carti makes his presence felt utilizing his iconic baby voice.
In a recent interview with Complex,Yachty said, "There's people who love me and who’ve been with me throughout these years. They enjoy it, and it’s something for them. The album is just as fun."
Yachty accomplishes that goal in his verse where he describes his lavish lifestyle where he buys Birkin bags at 18 or having his female aquanctices in order, as they know to not post them on socials.
Future plays the savvy verteran role as he handles the chorus with a constant “Flex up, stretch out, big bands, woah, woah.” On his clean up verse, Future matches the vibe with verse that continues to show why he lives amongst Hip Hop’s greatest at the moment.
Where the track really shines is in the visual that is produced by Zham and Raheem. All three MC's make an appearance in the video in a spooky theatre. The added night vision and and Pov like blur add to the vampire like aesthetic.
With the release of Lil Boat 3.5, Achty is looking to close out 2020 shrug and deliver bangers to his loyal fans. Stream “Flex Up” on YouTube and Lil Boat 3.5 on all DSPs now.
