Busta Rhymes: The Breaks Over

With the release of his 1998 follow up Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God, Busta Rhymes teams up with LA native Kendrick Lamar for the single release of “Look over your Shoulder”

Right off the bat, one of the most noticeable elements of the track are the beautiful string instrumentation and  iconic Michael Jackson sample from his group days as a member of the Jackson 5 with the 70s record “I'll be There” Reminiscent of the early 2000s sample culture, producer Nottz wisley uses the tracks “look over your shoulders honey” and “Ooouuu” sporadically throughout both MCs verses perfectly.

As 2020 has been relatively quiet for Kdot, he quickly makes it apparent that he is still in shape. Delivering quoatables that allude to what he has done for the Hip Hop genre and his continued success and rap’s front runner at the moment. “My life is like twelve open mics of hopeless notes/I write for sure, my folks unite/Soon as the flow get nice/The poltergeist that scare emcees.”

Busta Rhymes does what he does best in his collaboration with Kendrick. His flow is nothing short of immaculate as he is able to not only deliver a classic triplet flow but also has the wear with all to break that flow and leave room to diversity. Busta brings that same intensity and fire that he always does, making the listener feel his presence rather than just seeing it.

The lyrics speak for themselves as Rhymes boast “And bars and I spit 'em like darts/Til they puncture your kidney/You trash and it don't matter how much you gon' try to convince me.”

With these two Legends joining forces, “Look Over Your Shoulders'' serves a great complementary piece that showcases the best aspects of both artists. Stream Busta Rhymes new project Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God on all DSPs now.
